"We will discuss this matter later on," said Bai Meiyue as she stepped inside the penthouse. When she walked inside, Bai Meiyue sensed that there was something wrong. She frowned and turned to look at her mother, who was sitting on the couch with red eyes. Next to her sat a pregnant woman who was wiping her eyes as well.
Seeing the sight in front of her, Bai Meiyue asked, "What’s going on?"
When Mother Bai heard her daughter’s voice, she raised her head and said to her, "It’s nothing; Little Yang was telling me about the place she was staying." As her mother spoke, her eyes turned even redder, and she continued, "Can you believe that there are people who are abandoning their elders, weak and disabled?"
Bai Meiyue could. She had seen the worst of the people in her past life. So how could she not believe that there were families who were abandoning their loved ones?
Mother Bai didn’t need an answer as she spoke, "Little Yang told me that there was an old woman who was so hungry that she ate the pills in the store where they were hiding and died because the medicines didn’t support her. How can there be people so cruel as this? How could they leave their mother and father behind like this?"
"There was even a pregnant woman who suffered from excessive bleeding when she gave birth. And her husband took the child with him and left the woman to die."
The more Mother Bai spoke, the angrier she became. She hoped that she could go ahead and slap these people in the face.
Bai Meiyue looked at the angry face of her mother and said to her, "Mom, don’t get angry. I will think of a way to bring these people some supplies; though I cannot save them, I can help them sustain themselves for a bit longer until they are accepted by the base."
If her mother was not allowed to do something for these people, she was worried that her mother would be really unhappy.
After all, her mother had a soft heart, even if her tongue was sharp.
Thus, even if Bai Meiyue didn’t care about these elderly, she was willing to help them a little.
It wasn’t that she was stone-cold. It was just that she had seen many things in her previous life.
She even saw parents selling their children to perverts for the sake of getting a few bites of food. There were husbands who would sell their wives for the sake of buying some rice, and there were mothers who would push their daughters into serving men because they wanted to get some supplies.
The apocalypse brought the worst side of humans to the surface, and it was so terrifying that even Bai Meiyue felt disgusted when she saw it the first time.
When Mother Bai heard the words of her daughter, her eyes lit up. That’s right, she could help those elderly even if their family didn’t want to. With something to do, Mother Bai stopped making a fuss.
