(Ethan's POV)
The eighteen-hour surgery on my left leg finally concluded. The pack healers managed to save it, but at a tremendous cost to my werewolf healing abilities.
Dead tissue was removed. A significant portion of muscle was excised to prevent the silver poisoning from spreading further through my system.
My once powerful Alpha leg, capable of supporting my wolf form's incredible strength, was left scarred and weakened. I had chosen this conservative treatment knowing its slim chances of success and the intense pain it would entail.
Silver wounds heal much slower in werewolves. I preferred this agonizing path, however, to facing Olivia Winters as a disabled Alpha.
I felt unworthy of my Luna's love. Unable to protect the pack as I once could.
A month passed. Dr. Marcus Fletcher arrived to clean my wound.
As the moonstone-infused bandages were removed, the extent of the damage was revealed. The extensive muscle removal necessitated daily cleaning and disinfection to prevent infection.
The cleaning process was excruciating for an Alpha whose enhanced nervous system made me more sensitive to pain. I was left drenched in sweat, just as I had been in the weeks prior.
I endured it in silence. My lips tightly pressed together, my wolf whimpering deep within.
Despite the slow recovery, there was no infection threatening my werewolf constitution. After Dr. Fletcher left, Healer Sarah Mitchell helped me clean up and change my sweat-soaked Moonstone-Infused Recovery Garments.
The pain shot through my leg like liquid fire. I gripped the bed rails until my knuckles turned white.
"Alpha Stone, try to relax," Healer Mitchell said softly. Her hands trembled as she worked.
I said nothing. The agony was nothing compared to the emptiness in my chest.
(Maxwell's POV)
I witnessed the toll the fire and its aftermath had taken on my Alpha. Since the fire, and after Evelyn Winters spoke with Ethan about Olivia's future with Lucas Blackwood, the light in his amber eyes had disappeared.
The Alpha King seemed lifeless. His wolf retreating deep within.
Seeing Ethan's despair and recognizing how his Alpha's wolf was slowly dying without its mate, I suggested, "Alpha Stone, I will go to Luna Winters and tell her that you saved her and her mother."
I believed Olivia, who once loved Ethan deeply through their mate bond, would be moved by his sacrifice. She would offer him some comfort.
Knowing how much the Alpha King longed to see his estranged mate, I hoped her presence would alleviate his listlessness. Perhaps rekindle their severed bond.
I understood that an Alpha without his true Luna slowly loses his strength and will to lead.
(Ethan's POV)
I sharply rejected the idea with a cold glare. My Alpha authority flashed briefly in my amber eyes.
"Saving her and Evelyn was what I should do as her mate," I stated firmly.
I didn't want to use my act of heroism to obligate Olivia to do anything against her will. Especially knowing she'd found happiness with Lucas Blackwood.
"I'll only say this once, don't go to Olivia," I commanded. My Alpha voice carried final authority.
Maxwell acknowledged the order and dropped the subject. Instead, he handed over the stack of Stone Pack Enterprises documents requiring my attention.
Despite my condition, I worked through the pack business documents. I attended a video conference with other Northern Territory pack leaders, maintaining my duties as Alpha King even while bedridden.
The documents blurred before my eyes. My injured leg throbbed with each heartbeat.

Please break Olivia 's mate bond to that evil man. She deserves respite from the abuse she and Lily endured....
I’m reading this and think: BITCH JUST BREAK YOUR MATE BOND AND SAY I’M NOT YOUR MATE ANYMORE!...
I swear to you if Olivia goes back to Ethan and not ends up with Lukas, I’ll drop this book....
Yes… Victoria is finally about to get caught up...
I can’t wait until Victoria finally gets caught up....
The story would be better if it didn’t drag on. Olivia’s character eh , sounds like a broken record...
