I subconsciously wanted to follow Dominic, already taking a step toward the exit when I heard Jason’s gentle voice call out behind me.

The soft sound of my name made me freeze. Only then did I remember my promise to review the herbal remedy projects he’d brought with him.

My heart sank with guilt as I turned back to face Jason. His green eyes held that same warmth I’d grown to appreciate during our time as colleagues.

Despite the urgency of my brother’s hospitalization, I couldn’t just abandon Jason after recommending him for this position.

I threw down this harsh sentence and turned to walk out of the hospital room.

Outside in the corridor, Dominic gently caught my wrist, his touch immediately calming some of my agitation. “Alright, don’t be angry,” he said soothingly. “It’s not worth getting upset over someone like your elder brother.” His words, though clearly meant to comfort me, only intensified my frustration with the entire situation. “My elder brother is definitely hiding something from me!” I declared. “And it definitely has somthing to do with Claire Watson!”

I took the elevator down to the obstetrics and gynecology department, my heart feeling lighter with each

floor.

Heading straight for the nurses‘ station, I approached the desk with determined steps.

“Hello, I have a pregnancy termination scheduled for tomorrow morning,” I said to the nurse. “Can I cancel that appointment?”

“Of course,” the nurse replied professionally. “Please state your name and identification number, and I’ll register the cancellation for you.”

I quickly provided my information.

“Alright, Miss Summers, please wait just a moment while I process this.”

While waiting for the nurse, I found myself observing the corridor around me with new eyes.
