Nathalie’s face twisted in anger.
"What arrogance!" she snapped, her voice cold.
The thought of Selena becoming the mother of the Fletcher heir seemed absurd to her.
The marriage was merely a temporary arrangement. Once Aaron tired of her, Selena would be nothing.
Selena casually brushed her hair back and replied, "I can’t help it. I’m confident Aaron will always love me."
Nathalie’s expression remained sour, while Kendrick, his face stern, spoke up. "Enough. This family bickering needs to stop. Now that you're here, stay for dinner. And Selena, go apologize to Lila. Let’s put this whole thing behind us. You’re her sister-in-law after all, and you two need to learn how to get along."
What?
Selena couldn’t believe her ears. She had done nothing wrong, yet because of Lila’s twisted version of events, she was expected to apologize?
This family was beyond ridiculous.
How did someone like Aaron even come out of it? She marveled at the thought.
"No way," Aaron said firmly, his voice cutting through the tension. "Lila’s the one who lied and caused trouble. She’s the one who should apologize to Selena. Until she does, we’re not moving past this."
Nathalie glared at him. "You know her health isn’t good. Are you trying to push her to the edge?"
Kendrick added, "Aaron, Lila is your mother’s pride and joy. If something happens to her, what do you think will happen to your mom? She’s just a child, not thinking before she speaks. Give her a break, and this will blow over."
In the end, they were still trying to force Selena to bear the burden for Lila’s lies.
Aaron’s face darkened.
Grabbing Selena’s hand, he turned, clearly done with the conversation.
"Stop right there!" Kendrick’s voice boomed. "If you walk out that door, don’t expect to ever come back to this house."
A blatant threat.
Aaron turned back, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Fine by me. Go ahead and have another son. Maybe you’ll have better luck raising him. As for me, I’m done."
...
In the car, Selena sat quietly, wanting to speak but holding back.
Aaron, clearly agitated, tugged at his collar, pulling the car over to the side of the road. He stared out the window, his frustration evident.
Selena lowered her eyes and finally broke the silence. "Aaron, do you think you’ll regret all of this one day? Regret what you’ve done for me?"
Aaron turned to her, his gaze sharp. "Regret what, exactly?"
She hesitated. "Regret marrying me."
His eyes fixed on her, a tension in the air. "And what about you? I’ve just turned my back on my family for you. I won’t be welcome at the Fletcher estate anymore, and my role in the company is probably gone. Are you going to regret marrying me?"
Selena thought for a moment.
Aaron’s expression darkened immediately. He grabbed her chin, his grip firm but not painful. "You actually have to think about that? Are you telling me you regret it?"
