"Such a big issue has to be cleared up, don’t you think, Aaron? What if someone is deliberately trying to smear your wife’s name?"
"Exactly! We’ve all met your wife—she’s beautiful and sharp. There’s no way she’d do anything to betray you."
"We need to open the door and clear up any misunderstandings before things get out of hand."
The crowd voiced their concerns, their words filled with feigned sympathy, but their eyes gleamed with anticipation.
Kendrick arrived just behind Aaron, and upon hearing the whispers, his expression darkened.
"Who said this?"
The servant timidly raised her hand. "I... I did."
His voice hardened. "Are you sure of what you saw?"
Though visibly frightened, the servant nodded firmly. "I’m sure."
"I don’t think she’s lying.”
"Maybe it’s true. If it is, then she really couldn’t keep herself in check, especially at Lila’s birthday party. How shameless."
"Unbelievable! With a husband like Aaron, she’s still not satisfied? I can’t understand women like that."
A few snide comments floated from the edges of the group, filled with thinly veiled amusement.
Nathalie turned to him, her expression heavy with concern. "Aaron, what do you think…?"
Aaron’s handsome face remained unreadable, his voice calm but firm. "I want to see for myself what’s going on."
A glint of satisfaction flickered in Nathalie’s eyes. "But the door is locked…"
Aaron looked directly at the servant. "Go get the spare key."
The servant felt a chill run down her spine, mistaking Aaron’s cold demeanor for anger at being betrayed. Bowing her head, she replied, "Yes."
"How could it be her?"
"I thought it was Mrs. Fletcher! Lila and Ernest? What on earth…?"
After a moment of stunned silence, the room erupted in exclamations of disbelief.
Nathalie, who had been trailing behind, carefully preparing her reaction for what she thought would be Selena’s humiliation, froze at the sound of the voices inside. Her eyes went wide in horror, and she shoved her way through the crowd, rushing into the room.
"Lila!"
The sight inside nearly caused her to faint, her vision going black as she stumbled in shock.
Kendrick took in the scene with a dark expression. His face hardened as rage built up. "Everyone, get out!"
His thunderous voice broke the crowd from their stupor, and they quickly fled the room, too stunned to linger any longer.
