Jared stood before the mouth of the cave, not daring to push open the door and step in. He missed his mother every second of every day, but when it was time to meet her for real, he did not know how to face her.

When Beatrice heard that, she eyed Jared and chastised, “Don't you know how to weigh the situation, silly? Were you planning to remain childless for ten years if you couldn't save me for that long? Let's leave quickly. When we arrive back in Jadeborough, go all the way with them. With so many of them, I'll likely have many grandchildren at once.”
