At the dinner table, Natalie quietly sipped her soup.
The taste of the soup was exquisite...!
Perhaps because she had been in a bad mood that morning, Cedric had instructed the kitchen to prepare dishes she liked.
"Kayla, what's wrong?" Cedric furrowed his brows, noticing Kayla's gloomy demeanor.
After spending such a long time with the child, he had some understanding of her eating habits.
Seeing Kayla's discomfort with tonight's flavors, he urged, "Try a little!"
"Okay." Kayla nodded, subconsciously glancing at the still icy-cold Natalie.
Without looking at them, Natalie sarcastically remarked, "Watching you all act like this is quite nauseating!"
Kayla and Cedric were silent.
Instantly, Cedric's expression darkened.
Though their conversation that morning had made him somewhat sympathetic towards Natalie, her words in front of the child left him feeling uneasy.
"Some people are just good at pretending, aren't they?" Natalie's tone grew even more mocking when Cedric remained silent.
This time, Cedric could no longer stomach it.
The moment he set down his utensils forcefully, it was evident to everyone that he was angry.
"Daddy," Kayla said weakly and looked up at Cedric, her eyes filled with anxiety.
Cedric glanced at Natalie, who was sipping her soup.
"Let's go out to eat."
With that, he grabbed Kayla's hand.
Upon hearing this, Natalie chuckled!
Wasn't he the perfect father? He was beyond reproach.
Cedric wanted to say something to Natalie but decided against it. At this moment, he had no desire to speak.
He left with Kayla.
At the dinner table, only Natalie remained.
Strangely, her appetite seemed to have improved. It was obvious that seeing Cedric and Kayla had ruined her appetite.
Chloe and the butler exchanged a knowing glance upon noticing Natalie's sudden change in appetite.
Clearly, they hadn't expected this reaction from Natalie.
After dinner, Natalie received a call from Stephen. "Hello, Dad."
"Are you at Peach Garden?"
"Yes."
"How are you feeling?" Stephen asked.
Natalie replied, "Like normal."
What else could she say?
Hearing this, Stephen's brows furrowed.
Undoubtedly, he knew what Cedric meant to Natalie. Getting her to accept everything was not easy.
He recalled the words Cedric had once said to him, and his tone became more serious when he next spoke.
"Nat, sometimes you need to approach things with deeper consideration!"
"What do you mean by that?"
"Since you've moved to Peach Garden, pay close attention this time, alright?"
Pay close attention?
What was he implying?
Was he saying...?!
Without a doubt, Natalie understood what Stephen meant.
Already feeling uneasy, hearing Stephen's words made her heart race, "Did he do something to you?"
Clearly, she thought about the incident where Cedric had threatened Caleb.
Unbeknownst to her, the danger in her tone was obvious at this moment.
Stephen replied, "See? That's the image you have of him now."
Natalie fell silent, stunned by his words!
Before she could react, Stephen continued, "This is the only chance, alright?"
Only chance?
She stayed at Lotus Villa with her daughter.
Now he was telling her life was hard?
Hah!
"Nat," his voice deepened as he squeezed her hand even tighter.
Natalie remained silent!
She merely stared coldly at him, the distance between them becoming more apparent to Cedric.
Now, an insurmountable gap seemed to exist between them.
There were so many explanations needed between them!
Despite wanting to speak, he found himself lost for words at Natalie's icy demeanor.
Knock! Knock!
"Sir..."
Just as the tension between them grew, the butler's voice interrupted from outside.
Cedric stood up, his face darkening noticeably with a hint of annoyance.
"What's the matter?"
"Ms. Kayla suddenly has a high fever. Her temperature has reached 39°C."
Cedric was stunned, and his heart tightened at the news!
He glanced subconsciously at Natalie, who remained seated serenely, showing no reaction.
It was as if she heard something entirely unrelated to her.
Cedric moved his lips as if to say something but refrained, striding purposefully toward the door.
Natalie had to admit that the child's health wasn't great. From what Natalie knew, this had happened several times in such a short span.
Just then, her phone vibrated.
Glancing at the caller ID, her already cold eyes grew even colder.
"Hello." She tried to suppress the emotions rising in his chest when she answered.
A deep voice came from the other end, exuding a sense of control, "Tell me, who is more important, you or the child?"
