Chapter 4
“How can I betray Theo and help you if he didn’t let you go out?”
“Matilda, you don’t understand our relationship well enough, just like how Theo helped me, whatever he wants to do, I will do my best to help him.”
At that moment, I saw a hint of determination and seriousness in Skyla’s eyes.
Maybe, I was really wrong.
There was a trust between Theodore and Skyla that outsiders simply couldn’t penetrate.
So, Theodore did not hesitate to sacrifice his wife and children in order to help his childhood sweetheart, who had grown up with him.
Every day after Theodore came home, he would tell bedtime stories to the baby inside Skyla’s belly.
When he knocked on my door, it was already past ten o’clock at night.
I opened the door for him, and for a moment, there was silence.
I turned around and lay back on the bed. Theodore’s eyes shimmered with tears, which he wiped away.
The room I lived in was even worse than the nanny’s room at home. It could only accommodate a bed and didn’t even have a place to sit.
All the rooms in the house were occupied by Skyla.
One room was used as a children’s room for her child, one room was her piano practice room, and the rest were rooms specifically for her to store things.
Even Theodore now lives with Skyla, making it convenient to take care of her.
Theodore stood by the bed and silently took out a cigarette from his pocket.
Just about to light up, I realized there was no window in the room.
He was put back by him again.
I became a little impatient and said, “What exactly do you want? I want to go to sleep.”
Theodore’s eyes drooped, his tone carrying an imperceptible pain.
“Matilda, do you really want to abort our child like this?”
“Do you really distrust my love for you like this?”
This was the first time Theodore said he loved me.
But the present me.
I already don’t know if this was his true feelings or just a means to deceive me into giving birth to the child.
I closed my eyes and two clear tears streamed down my face, as if accepting my fate.
Theodore held me in his arms, his tone revealing a hint of excitement.
The moment I got hold of the phone, the uneasiness that had plagued me for these days finally subsided.
No one knew that the Kramer family, as a pawn in alliance with the Tanner family, had adopted a daughter.
Although they were reluctant, they still respected my decision.
But when they left, they gave me a phone number and said, “If one day in the future you are not happy, Mom and Dad will come to pick you up anytime.”
used to not keep this sentence in mind, but now, they are my only lifeline.
After six months of Skyla’s pregnancy, she suggested going abroad to have the baby.
