When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 1989

Chapter 1989 Feelings Of Regret
Upon learning that Magnus had returned, the manager too burst out of his office, raising his hand to land a punch on Magnus.

“You actually dared to return. Where's the money?” the manager demanded, seething with anger.

Magnus grimaced in pain, staggering back several steps. Yet, he didn't fight back or attempt to dodge.

He didn't respond to the manager. Instead, he looked around and asked, “Where is Denise?”

“I can't believe you still have the audacity to ask about Denise. Do you know that her parents are ruined because of you?” the manager said, bristling with anger.

“Ruined because of me?”

Magnus' eyes widened in shock and disbelief.

“What's with that expression? You embezzled the hundred thousand meant for saving her parents. Were you aware of the consequences?” the manager questioned.

Magnus swooned slightly. “How could that be? I... I just wanted to earn a bit more money to give it to her, so she wouldn't have to work so hard... I... I didn't mean to...”

He staggered back a few steps.

The manager felt that Magnus was full of lies. He said, “You don't need to say anymore. I'm telling you, you should turn yourself in right now.”

Shaking his head, Magnus said, “No, I need to find Denise. Where is she now?”

“I have no idea,” the manager responded coldly. “How could she possibly stay here after what happened to their parents?”

Tears welled up in Magnus's eyes, turning them red.

At that very moment, he couldn't comprehend why his heart felt as if it had been stabbed, a sensation he had never experienced before. He felt as if he had committed an unforgivable sin.

“I'm going to find her!”

Magnus attempted to leave, but the manager and the others refused to let him. It was only after they had given him a severe beating that they finally allowed him to go.

Once he left, a coworker asked the manager, “Isn't Denise still working here? Aren't her parents also doing well?”

The manager let out a sigh. “It was Denise who told me to say this. Otherwise, do you think I would have just let him go?”

A person like Magnus, who could stoop so low, deserved to be behind bars.

A colleague scratched his head. “Why is Denise doing this?”
