They Want Me Back When It's Too Late (Jessica and Brian) novel Chapter 311

Chapter 311

Chapter 311

Brian went quiet, caught off guard.

He thought, So Jessi used to help Jake with his social stuff?

Looking back on their marriage, Brian realized just how spoiled he’d been. Jessica had taken care of everythingkeeping up with friends and family, managing Jacob’s schoolwork and daily routinesso Brian never had to lift a finger.

That was why he’d buried himself in work, slowly forgetting he was a husband and dad. Family wasn’t supposed to be her job alone. But he’d been totally clueless. The truth was, Jessica had pampered him rotten. Brian gave a bitter laugh.

Dad, what’s wrong?Jacob asked, worried.

Brian ruffled his hair. Nothing. Just hit me how much we messed up. Your mom’s right not to forgive us.

He couldn’t even forgive himself for ignoring her hard work.

Jacob’s eyes clouded over. I know, but I don’t want to lose Mom.

Even if it felt like he already had, he refused to quit.

I really did wrong. Can’t she give me another chance?he thought sadly, knowing he had no right to ask.

Same here, bud. That’s why I’m gonna win her back.Brian squeezed his shoulder.

Jacob pumped his fist and nodded. I’ll help, Dad.

Brian gave him a pat on the shoulder and encouraged him. Good man. Go pack for tomorrow while I get the tickets.”

Okay.” Jacob dashed up the stairs.

Brian watched him vanish, then pulled out his phone to buy passes for the city’s biggest amusement park.

Early the next morning, Brian drove Jacob out bright and early.

Jacob wore a white tee with blue sailor pants, topped with a brand new sunhat from a bigname label, looking totally sharp.

Brian had him pose in front of the car and snapped a pic on his phone.

Once we get back from the park, we’ll print these and send them to your Mom,Brian said, holding the car door open.

Yep! And we can send my postcards too, so she can see all the cool stuff,Jacob said.

True to his word, Jacob bolted for the postcard stand as soon as they arrived. He picked out a bunch, got the vendor to take his photo, then tucked it inside the envelope with the cards.

Dad, don’t forget to take tons of pics. Every single ride, so Mom can see everything,Jacob insisted, dead serious.

Brian flicked his head with a laugh. Kid, you’re giving me a fulltime photography job.

Jacob just grinned.

Brian shook his head but gave in.

His camera clicked nonstopevery loop on the roller coaster, every splash on the log flume. They ended up with over a hundred prints.

By afternoon, Jacob was soaked in sweat but still begging for more.

Chapter 311

Time to go, we’ll hit it again,Brian said, pulling him along.

Next time can we bring Mom?Jacob asked quietly.

Brian looked at the throngs of people and said flatly, Not right now. Crowds aren’t good for her.

It was peak summer weekendparents with kids everywhere..

He brushed Jacob’s sweaty hair back and added softly, Your mom’s got babies on the way. You want her standing in line for hours, or do you want me to shut down the whole park?

He thought, If Jessi ever does come, I’ll clear the place for her safetyno question!

Don’t shut down the park,Jacob said, shaking his head.

He thought, What’s the point of riding rides alone? No way. As for Mom

Jacob dropped his gaze, voice all mopey. I was just talking. Mom wouldn’t come anyway.

Good that you get it,Brian said.

He didn’t softpedal this time, believing Jacob needed to face factsJessica was done with them.

He thought, Holding on will just cause more pain. Better to be straight up.

Jacob’s smile faded. He gave his dad a sulky look.

What?Brian steered him toward the parking lot, raising an eyebrow at the attitude.

Brian thought, Since when is Jake such a smartass?

Jacob said, You’re so lame, Dad. You still haven’t gotten Mom to forgive you.

He thought, If Dad had tried harder, maybe Mom would be here today.

Brian flicked Jacob’s head. Like you’re Mr. Perfect?

Both sighed, thinking, We’re equally hopeless. No one has room to judge.’

After dropping Jacob off, Brian grabbed the desserts he’d picked up and the postcards Jacob had made, then headed to Jessica’s.

Jessica had let Gabriela drag her out for a full day of fun. When she got home that night, the first thing she did was check the mailbox by her door.
