Who could've done it?
Arthur, maybe?
Yesterday, Arthur did see her chatting with that woman. He stirred up all that drama to break her and King apart, and now there's a dead body. Could this be part of his plan too?
If so, King must've played a significant role in her past.
Brielle's head suddenly throbbed. She leaned against a nearby tree, waiting for the stabbing pain to subside before slumping against the trunk, her face as pale as a ghost.
If King had really been a part of her life, and now she couldn't remember a thing...
The only explanation would be a hypnotist.
Brielle raised her hand, massaging her temples, and then called Ramey.
Ramey hadn't handled any of Brielle's cases for a while and had been staying in North America. Seeing her call was a surprise.
"Ms. Brielle?"
"Ramey, I'm sending you an address. Drive over here."
Ramey nodded, knowing she wouldn't call unless it was important. The last time she called him over to North America, showing him a photo of her cousin, the details were unclear, but it was clearly significant to Brielle.
"Alright, I'll be right there."
Brielle hesitated for a moment, thinking of the body she’d just seen, and cautiously said, "Send me your address. I'll have a bodyguard from the Lynch family pick you up."
Ramey didn't argue. Whatever Brielle said, went.
But after hanging up and sending his address to Brielle, his phone rang again, this time from his cousin. His cousin rarely called.
"Cousin."
"Have you been in touch with Brielle recently?"
"And your face, what happened? How did you end up like this?"
Sitting in his wheelchair, Myles saw his unscathed cousin and a hint of jealousy flashed in his eyes. His cousin, inferior in every aspect, remained untouched by these conspiracies, living a good life. While he, once the golden boy, had become a vermin in the sewers.
"Toasting, I was betrayed by Brielle and King."
Ramey stiffened, disbelief coursing through him. To him, Brielle seemed like a decent person. As for King, he didn’t know much. But considering the photo Brielle had shown him, the resemblance between his cousin and King, and King's consistent use of a mask—was his cousin trying to mimic King?
But why mimic King?
"Cousin, how could this happen?"
"Heh, how could it not? Years ago, I was chosen by King to mimic his every word and action, becoming his double. Now, I've taken his place in suffering, turned into this, and he's discarded me. Now I'm a pawn, left to rot. After all these years of service, dodging countless assassination attempts, if not for merit, then for hard labor. But my face and legs are ruined. I just can't accept it, Toasting."
Ramey looked on in disbelief, his mind a blank slate. Combining what his cousin now said with the photo Brielle showed him that day, Ramey believed him to be truthful. But what he didn’t know was that Myles' story was half-truth, half-lie. The mix of truth and falsehood made it impossible to distinguish between the two.
